HeatPro Quick Method
The Quick Method
(HeatPro) was produced as a computer program after complaints were registered by users of my IBR Method HEATLOSS program from 1985. The IBR H-18 and 19 Manuals stated on the publication page that is was to be used for smaller structures because the infiltration method based upon whether a room had 1, 2, or 3 sides with openings was too generous and could result in boilers twice as large as necessary in multiple apartments or condo buildings. For that reason, I no longer program using the IBR Method. Slant/Fin is distributing a Heal Estimation computer program similar to the first Windows estimation program I programmed, copyrighted and sold based upon the same IBR Method - and thus should be receiving complaints as contractors wake up to the weakness of the method.
In contrast, the HeatPro Method uses the ASHRAE procedure steps that avoid the overestimation by using the crackage method. Interestingly, such steps were laid out and taught in the IBR Advanced Hydronics Guide 250.
HeatPro Method:
Exposed Wall: (320 x 8 (-400) x 75 DTD) divided by R13 12461 btuh
Ceiling : (6000 x 75 DTD) divided by R30 15000
Floor: (6000 x 30 DTD) divided by R7 25714
Openings: (400 x 75 DTD) divided by R2 15000
Infiltration (Square Root of 400) x 5 x 75 DTD 7500
NOTE: c. 100 lin ft crack @ 75 btuh per linear foot
Total 75,674 btuh
